Chance (noun): a possibility of something happening
When I was in hospital, the window in my room was ajar. Just a tiny bit.
All alone, as I peered to my right, there was a gust of wind and a leaf blew through the tiny gap and slowed perfectly to land on the table.
My immediate response was “what are the chances?!” I thought: this is a sign. I have a feeling that something is going to happen with this baby, where I am again made to think “what are the chances?”
James came back into the room and I told him my thinking. A friend visited later and I also told her about it. Four days later, Summer was born, against all odds, squeaking away and with her heart still beating.
“What are the chances?”
I still have that leaf.
